Women in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, North West Nigeria have made a passionate appeal to Gov. Dikko Umaru Radda to fix the Tsangamawa road in Babban Rafi which has been claiming lives, especially pregnant women and their babies.

At an emergency meeting in the area over the Tsangamawa road, the women expressed grave concern over the pathetic situation which they described as a major challenge to the community.
The Tsangamawa road in Babban Rafi, Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, the women lamented, had caused the deaths of pregnant women and their newborns, especially during the rainy season.
Despite several pleas to successive administrations, no action has been taken up to date, they emphasized.
Some of the women spoken to in an interview disclosed that, pregnant women and their newborn babies are always victims while going to hospital due to poor condition of the road.
Investigation shows that although there is a healthcare centre in the area, its building is now in a deteriorated state, while most nurses and health workers are unable to attend work regularly due to the bad road being referred to as a death trap.
A mother of four in the community, Hajara Ibrahim expressed concern, saying that so far, no government has shown any compassion, despite their rights to a better life .
Mallama Tayyeba Muktari from Babban Rafi narrated her sad experience during her last pregnancy, saying it was the Will of God that she survived and therefore appealed to the Katsina State Government to urgently do something about the road
Also commenting, Fatima Abdullahi lamented the poor road condition which she said, made it difficult for their husbands to go out and earn a livelihood.
A retired Health Officer, Dr. Haruna Abubakar also appealed to the State Government to include the construction of Tsangamawa, Babban Rafi road in this year’s budget because of its importance to communities.
He stressed the need for  government to prioritize provision of basic amenities in rural areas to improve the living condition of the locals.
The Tsangamawa road is about 23 kilometers which has been yearning for government attention.
