Nigeria: Governor Yahaya Commiserates With Christian Community After Tragic Accident In Gombe

Date:

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Christian community in the state following a tragic incident that left at least 22 people injured. Earlier in the day, a vehicle carrying grains lost its brakes near the Women Centre, opposite Orji Estate, and crashed into a Christmas procession.

The procession, a regular ritual to show love and solidarity, was en route to the Gombe Emir’s palace and then to the Government House for Christmas homage when the accident occurred. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, describing it as an accident. “I think the driver lost brakes, you know that place is a hill. The driver was carrying rice in the vehicle, including on the roof,” he explained.

Governor Yahaya, while receiving leaders of the Christian community led by the Christian Association of Nigeria, lamented the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, their families, and the entire Christian community during this difficult time. It is my commitment as Governor to ensure that all necessary medical assistance is provided to the victims,” he said.

“We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable, and decisive action will be taken against anyone found wanting in this incident. The safety and well-being of our citizens remain our top priority,” he added.

Governor Yahaya also appealed to the youth, emphasizing the joyous nature of the season. “I want to appeal to especially the young ones that this season is a joyous one. I want to ask that we go with the ethics, guidance, and counsel. I pray that God will give us more Christmases to celebrate. Live in peace with your neighbors, because we are one people under God. Put the country in prayers so that as humanity we can progress and move forward,” he urged.

Reverend Alphonsus Shinga, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, commended the governor for his swift response to the incident. He also called for peace, unity, and progress for the state and the nation.
