Nigeria: Four Convicted for Drug Offence in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command, has secured the conviction of four drug peddlers in the state.

Spokesperson of the command, Sadiq Maigatari in a statement noted that those convicted included a 40-year-old ex-convict and notorious cannabis distributor, James Temitope Ajayi, who has been sentenced to seven years in prison for trafficking illicit substances.

Others include a 25-year-old Ibrahim Tahir, was convicted on three separate counts related to drug offenses, with each carrying a three-year sentence to be served consecutively (totaling 9 years in prison); while Adekunle Adebayo (40) and Yahaya Mamuda(35) were convicted and sentenced to 6 years each for drug-related offenses.

According to the statement, all convictions were without the option of a fine, warning that, any drug offender found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“These convictions were all within the short stint of Hon Justice MS Shuaibu of the federal High Court – Court One, sitting in Kano, showcasing his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating drug-related offenses.

“These convictions demonstrate the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to combating drug-related offenses and upholding the rule of law in line with the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa’s (Retd), CON, OFR, mission of ensuring a drug-free society.”

While appreciating the various efforts of various stakeholders, Maigatari however noted that the command under the leadership of CN AI Ahmad, has achieved significant milestones in its relentless fight against drug-related offenses.
