Nigeria: Senator Jonathan Zwingina dies at 70

An Elder Statesman, Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina dies on Wednesday in Abuja after a protracted illness.

He was aged 70.

The leadership newspaper first carried the story.

Late Zwingina was a founding member of Nigeria’s leading political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

When Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, Mr. Zwingina contested and won the Southern Adamawa Senatorial Seat and represented zone from 1999-2007.

He became a majority leader in the Senate.

Late Zwingina was the Director-General of the MKO Abiola campaign Organisation in the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which was annulled by President Ibrahim Babangida
