Edo Deputy Gov: Shaibu Out, Omobayo In

Few hours after the Edo State House of Assembly (ESHA) impeached Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, a new man, Engr. Omobayo Marvellous Godwins mounts the saddle as Governor Godwin Obaseki’s deputy

Obaseki named Omobayo to replace Shaibu whose impeachment and removal from office was effected by the State lawmakers on Monday morning.

The new Deputy Governor of Edo State, Omobayo is described as a seasoned Engineer with a proven track record of progressive professional experience in the oil and gas sector.

Born July 19, 1986, the 38-year-old politician hails from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State and has a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

A registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), political watchers are already saying Omobayo is well suited for the role as a professional and an expert in public administration.

A thorough-bred professional, the new Deputy Governor served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, cutting his professional teeth in the operations in the South South area, providing top-notch services and effectively growing the business in the region.

Considered as a young politician with an impressive grassroot support,  Omobayo has been quite active politically in his local government and Edo state in general.

Also many see him as one who has been engaging in building bridges of confidence and trust with the people while mobilising them for common causes as well as breaking political barriers to the delight of even his political opponents.
