Nigeria: Jigawa Assembly Impeaches 2 Principal Officers, Suspends 4 Council Chairmen

The Jigawa State House of Assembly, Wednesday impeached Two of its principal officers, Deputy Majority Leader and Chief Whip at its resumed session after recess.

It also suspended local government council chairmen of Auyo, Dutse, Gumel, and Ringim

The impeachment of the Two principal officers followed a motion brought by Hamza Ibrahim Adamu, representing Malam Madori constituency.

Adamu accused the officers and One other of plotting and supporting the recent impeachment move of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin.

The motion received unanimous support from members, which resulting in the removal of the deputy majority leader, Hon. Aliyu Ahmed, representing Kirikassama, and the Chief whip, Dayyabu Shehu Kwalo, representing Taura Constituency.

The Four suspended local government council chairmen were indicted over allegations of financial misconduct.
by the House Committee report on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs within their respective councils.

The Committee report on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented by its Chairman, Hon. Aminu Zakaria Tsibut highlighted questionable expenditures and financial transactions discovered during its oversight visits to the 27 local government areas.

The suspension, according to the committee’s Chairman, underscores the Assembly’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency in governance at both the state and local government levels.
