NBTE Standard: Jigawa To Uplift Jahun College of Health, Science, and Technology – Provost

The Jigawa State Government is to carry out complete renovation and provision of facilities at the State owned Jahun College Of Health, Science and Technology as required by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

These include, the erection of two additional lecture halls, befitting student hostels, among other needed facilities required by the National Board For Technical Education Board ( NBTE).

Other needed facilities expected to be injected in the Institution are the erection of two additional male and female hostels, medical laboratories, theatre halls, recruitment of qualified medical personnel and lecturers in arresting shortage of man power, land scaping, tarring of laterite in the College premises, renovation of the College gate, and enhancement of security in the College environment, among others.

Most of the required facilities, according to the Ag. Provost of the College, Dr. Abdullahi Abubakar, were needed for the accreditation and which were captured in this year’s budget.

Briefing newsmen in his office, Dr.Abubskar further disclosed that Jahun School of Health Technology came into existence last year through an approved enabling law by the State House of Assembly, upgrading the status of Jahun School of Health Technology to Jahun College of Health, Science and Technology.

This followed the subsequent approval and recommendations of both Jigawa state government, the NBTE, among other National Health Bodies having certified with its mode of teaching requirements and expertise and professionalism of the teaching staff.

With this development, the Institution now has five Schools under it, namely School of Health Sciences which comprises Dental, Health Sciences, and Laboratories, the School of Health Information Management deals with Medical Records Department, Health Information, among others, School of Environmental Health, offers Diploma and HND in Environmental Health Sciences, Public Health, among others.

Other Schools are those of Community Health and General Studies which deal with Basic Sciences, among other Science related Programmes, as well as General practices of Community Health Education and alikes.

On the shortage of man power, Dr. Abubakar said at the moment, the College was facing a little shortage of qualified and professional manpower to mann most of the College departments in which their acceptance or recruitment will be based on the approved NBTE’s score mark of their professionalism before getting employed.

Furthermore, Dr. Abubakar stated “we are in dare need of additional staff quarters and a befitting administrative block as par the recommendations of the National Board For Technical Board approval for our Collage upgrade.

According to the Acting Provost, “we were told that in couple of weeks coming, a team of Engineers are visiting our College in carrying out a physical assessment fittings as attached to our College renovations”,

He commended the State government in its quest to give the Jahun College Of Health, Science, and Technology a new outlook in conformity to its elevation as approved and recommended by both the state government and the National Board For Technical Education Board, ( NBTE).

The Provost enjoined the students and lecturers to be punctual and dedicated in their studies for improved quality service delivery to attain excellence in character and learning .
