The Kano State Government has profusely warned against Illegal Felling Of trees by some unpatriotic citizens or else to face the wrath of the law.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change Nasiru Sule Garo gave the warning during an inspection visit to the work done by the Kano State government and The National Agency for the Great Green Wall, in the areas of Shelter belts, Wood lock, Nurseries and other Plantation Services at Danbatta, Makoda, Kunchi and some parts of Bichi local government areas.
Garo however noted with appreciation the status of these location Sites but urged people in the state to always be mindful of the seedlings to support government by looking after them, nursing them to the mature level and protect them against climate change issues including land degradation.
The Commissioner further explained that, the inspection was conducted as a result of the Governor’s directives to see what’s been done before by the government and the GGW, and advised on how best to utilize these locations again for this year’s occasion by the Great Green World.”
At Fagwalawa in Danbatta local government area, the Commissioner came across an individual who was felling a tree for fire wood along the main road and expressed worried on this negative attitude and warned vehemently that people should desist because of its consequences to the environment and ecosystem.
