President Adama Barrow was among other Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, attending the 64th Ordinary Summit of the regional body, where George Weah of Liberia was hailed by his colleagues for conceding defeat at the recent presidential election in his country, Liberia.

During the opening ceremony, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chair of ECOWAS delivered a statement, as well as the President of the ECOWAS Commission,, Dr Omar Touray and UNOWAS Representative, Mr Leonardo Santos Simao.
Discussions were held on the state of affairs of the ECOWAS subregion regarding peace and Security, threats to constitutionality, and trade, among other critical issues.
The Liberian President, George Weah, received a standing ovation for conceding defeat in a statement that promoted peace and stability following the outcome of Liberia’s elections.
The main reports for consideration include the State of the Community, the 51st Meeting of the Mediation and Security Council, and the 91st Meeting of the Ministerial Council.
The Heads of State and Government also considered special reports on practical steps to implement the ECO, the state of member countries in Transition and the performance of the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme.
Also, during the closed-door session, the Heads of State concluded on the date and venue of the host for the next 65th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority.
