…As UNICEF Visits Kankara LGA To Assess Compliance

Federal Goverment Officials and UNICEF are to visit Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria to assess the level of compliance with the open Defecation Policy.

The Director, Water Supply and Sanitation in Kankara Local Government Area, Alhaji Tanimu Ibrahim Bakori disclosed this during an advocacy visit to the Kanwan Katsina, District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara in his palace.

He called on communities of Ketare District to imbibe the culture of personal and environmental hygiene.

A statement issued by the Media Aide and Sarkin Labarun Kanwan Katsina, Malam Jamilu Hashimu Gora said that officials from the Federal Government and UNICEF would visit the area on the Sixth of December 2023

The Statement quotes the Director as stressing the need for the communities in Ketare District to step up their personal and environmental hygiene to meet the certified requirement, while noting that benefits accompanying the Open Defecation Free certification including sinking borehole to improve access to clean and portable water and construction of more toilets latrines in the communities.
The Director therefore solicits the support and cooperation of the Kanwan Katsina to achieve the desired goal.
Responding, the Kanwan Katsina Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara assured the director of his full support and cooperation of his village and ward heads in achieving the desired goal as the communities will immensely benefit from the amenities associated with the program.
The monarch said at district and ward levels, already committees have been set up to ensure the success of the open defecation free program.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara therefore directed all villages and ward heads to ensure every household has the recommended toilet facility to enjoy the benefit accompaning the compliance with the policy.
Similarly, he directed all the Imams in the district to continue to enlighten their followers during the five daily prayers and Jumu’at prayers on the need to desist from open defecation noting that cleanness is next to godliness.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara called on people of the area to ensure they have toilets in their houses and also to desist from open deification in markets places, motor parks, and schools among others.
He noted that he will be paying unscheduled visits to some selected communities to ensure compliance.
