The Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc says it has begun refunding of cost of meters to its costumers.
The Corporate Communications Manager of JED, Dr Friday Elijah made the announcement in a statement he issued to newsmen on Friday in Jos.
He said that the refund were for costumers who purchased their Meters through the Metre Assets Providers(MAP) scheme of the the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the MAP scheme was introduced by NERC who engaged the services of credible vendors to distribute meters.
“Management is pleased to announce that it has since commenced the repayment of the cost of meters to customers who purchased their meters through the MAP Scheme,” he said.
He said that customers were informed at the launch of the scheme in Plateau, that the cost of the meters would be refunded in instalments through the energy token.
According to him, the repayment was in line with the directives of the NERC , adding that it would be completed in 120 months from the date of the commencement of first payment.
“In view of the above, customers who purchased their Prepaid Meters through MAP would have noticed an increase in the value of energy tokens they purchase once every month.
“The increase in energy value will be based on the meter type purchased (Single Phase or 3 Phase Meter) as well as the customer’s Tariff Band classification,” he said
