The Nigeria Police Service Commission has been advised to always demand for proof of good conduct and character from traditional and community leaders before recruiting police officers in their areas.
The Kanwan Katsina District Head of Ketare,, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara gave the advice in a goodwill message to the inauguration of the newly elected executives of Katsina State Chapter of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara said demanding for the proof of good characters from the levels of village and wards heads would go along away in ensuring that people with questionable characters are weeded out in the process of recruiting police officers across the country.
According to a statement issued by his Media Aide, Jamilu Hashimu Gora, while congratulating the newly elected officials , the traditional ruler charged them to be just and fair in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
Alhaji Usman called on the officials to collaborate with the Katsina State Police Command and embark on public enlightenment through the media, organize seminars and symposium on the need to join hands in securing lives and properties of people of the state.
The traditional ruler also called on the new executives to device a way of generating revenue for the committee to carry out its activities as PCRC is a non profit organization
While thanking the PCRC Katsina State Chapter for finding him worthy and appointing him the Patron of the Committee, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara assured them of his support and advice at all times.
The Kanwan Katsina who was a retired Comptroller of Customs as well as Peace Ambassador said he had worked closely with the Nigeria Police at various points in time while serving and therefore promised to use his wealth of experience for the development of Katsina State PCRC.
Highlights of the event included administering oath of office to the newly elected officials and presentation of Certificate of Excellence to Kanwan Katsina District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara for his efforts in maintaining peace and security in his domain and State, in general.
