Flooding: Cameroon Alerts Nigeria On Plans To Open Lagdo Dam

Cameroon has informed Nigeria of plans to open the floodgates of the Lagdo Dam on River Benue in days ahead. This is due to heavy rainfall around the catchment area of Northern Cameroon.

A statement from Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the Cameroonian authorities have however indicated that only modulated variable small amount of water would be released at a time.

This is to mitigate and avoid damages that the release may cause along the River Benue basin in both Cameroon and Nigeria.

The Statement therefore advised NEMA, to take necessary proactive steps and actions that mitigate the damages as well as sensetize the populace in such areas for vigilance and all necessary precautions.
