Maiden West Africa Civil Society Week Kicks off in Lagos With Assemblage Of High Profile CSO Leaders

Graduation of Cohort 1 as Part of the Event

The 2023 West Africa Civil Society Week has kicked-off in Lagos Nigeria, gathering over 100 prominent civil society leaders and development partners within the ECOWAS region.

Lasting 3 days, the conference is envisioned as a catalyst for deepening the understanding of the evolving landscape and redefining the role of civil society in countering the decline of democracy, coup attempts, and encroachments on civic freedoms in West Africa.

The opening ceremony was laced with attractions and beautiful scenes as some of the participants were clad in their country’s traditional wears.

Among the dignitaries at the event are Ambassador William Azumah Awinador-Kanyirige, Senior Advisor for Governance and Peace building, Africa Union , Addis Ababa; Ms Nana Afadzinu , Executive Director, West Africa Civil Society Institute; Ms Fatou Jagne Senghor, Founder ,Centre for Women’s Rights and Leadership, The Gambia and renown human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana who is the keynote speaker.
