Nigeria: Jigawa Under Threat of Flooding, Reports

Flooding is imminent in jigawa State this year as areas such as Auyo, Miga Kafin-Hausa, Guri have had their rivers and ponds overflown by water.

The collapse of Masaya bridge which is on Kano- jigawa federal highway linking jigawa state with other five states of Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba state has also compounded the situation.

The bridge which collapsed due to torrential downpour, is said to have brought untold hardship to commuter’s plying the road, forcing commercial drivers calling on both federal and state government to promptly swing into action.

The bridge , according to reports, was amongst the seventeen major Ones which collapsed due to.last year flood that ravaged jigawa state.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State and team of Engineers, during a visit to the scene, directed the jigawa state Ministry of Works to find an alternative route for passage as an interim measures.

Similarly, a team of officials of FERMA in company of Committee of Works of the Senate under the supervision of Senator Babangida Hussein of Jigawa state have visited the scene with a pledge that work wouldl soon commence on the collapse bridge.

AFRICA PRIME NEWS gathered that communities of Guri, Birniwa, Hadejia, Jahun among other local government of riverine areas of jigawa state have begun massive embarkment, as interim measures to flooding in their domains.
