A community-led advocacy and monitoring service delivery, financing and technical infrastructure development to improve access and utilization of health care services in Four Primary health care centres has commenced in Kaduna North Senatorial district, North West Nigeria.
Three of the Four centres are located in Ungwar Jaba, Basawa and Sakkadadi, all in Sabongari Local Government Area, while the fourth is in Lere Local Government Area.
An advocacy working group, Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative, FHANI, which has deep understanding of the community and their leaders, has already undertaken an introductory visit to the facilities and the leaders in Sabongari to introduce the project, build working relationship and seek for their support.
The project, SCEAP empowers community actors to promote transparency and improve health care facilities and services.
This can be achieved by working with the communities and other stakeholders as key drivers of change and catalysts of the project.
The advocacy team led by the FHANI Chairman and Bunnun Zazzau, Alhaji Bala Mohammed Tijjani did not only visit community leaders of Ungwar Jaba, Sakkadadi and Sabawa, but the Primary health care centres.
The leaders were briefed on the motives and benefits derivable from the project, hence the need for their blessings and support.
Alhaji Bala assured the leaders of regular visits by members of the advocacy team to the facilities and interact with mothers who would be educated on the need to attend clinics as at when due and monitor the services.

Receiving the team in their domains, the leaders respectively affirmed their commitment to ensuring the realization of the objectives of the project.
They described the SCEA project as laudable and timely in view of the numerous challenges facing the health care delivery in the country, especially maternal health.
The leaders, Prince Ahmed B Aminu, District Head of Sabongari, Alhaji Muhammad Munir Ja’a far, Madakin Zazzau and District Head Of Basawa who resigned shortly after the visit, as well as their village heads at Sakkadadi, Mallam Sani Yunusa and Basawa, Ismaila Adamu assured the team of their commitment to the realization of the laudable project by educating the people to utilize the services at the facilities and also own them.
SCEAP project is of the BudgIT program funded by Bill Gates and it will last for 18 months beginning from July 2023.
