Governor Malam Umar Namadi has expressed worry over the high level of absenteeism among the civil servants including permanent secretaries in the State civil service.
“It is disappointing the level of absenteeism among senior and junior workers in the secretariat” he said.
Namadi was speaking during an unscheduled visit to the Secretariat where he noticed majority of the worker’s came to work late.
“A situation whereby majority of the workers are absent, ‘honestly I felt saddened, with what I observed, as both senior and junior workers yet to report to work by 11.00am, describing the situation as much disturbing”
He said it is difficult for the State to progress with the negative attitude or lack of punctuality to work, stressing
“We must bear in mind that nobody outside JIgawa state will come to develop the State for us except its indigenes
“All of the workers are indigenes of the state. Remember we all promised to be frequent and dedicated while recieving the offer and letters of appointments”, he queried.
Malam Namadi therefore called for a change of attitude among the civil servants for the development of the State.
During the unscheduled visit, the governor met only three permanent secretaries, those of the budget and economic planning, ministry of education, establishment and labor matters as well as the Accountant General and few other directors
A senior officer at the office of the Head of Service in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the governor directed them to take the list of absentees.
“As I’m talking to you now we are doing just that. We are compiling the list of all permanent secretaries, directors and other senior officers who were absent during the unscheduled visit by the Governor at the state’s secretariat complex this afternoon”.
The governor was in the state secretariat at about 11:30am this noon, when he went round the ministries and agencies in the complex, where he remained till noon only to discover that only few workers were present and mostly messengers, cleaners and junior staff.
