Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment towards fostering a progressive and mutual relationship with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to enhance the welfare of civil servants in the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this in a discussion with NLC and added that his administration was committed to establishing a robust partnership between the government and labour.

Represented by his Deputy Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, he highlighted the administration’s dedication to upholding the rights and privileges of workers in Kano State.

He assured that the current administration would maintain a healthy relationship with all unions in the state and expressed gratitude to the NLC for promptly responding to the government’s invitation.

In his remarks, the Chairman of NLC, Kano State chapter, Kabiru Inuwa, emphasised that the era of labour gangsterism is over, as the union is now a partner in progress.

He noted that the NLC has representation in the form of the deputy governor and Secretary to the State Government, reducing their burden and strengthening collaboration between the labour union and the government.

Regarding strikes, the Chairman explained that the Kano chapter of the NLC follows the directives of the national body, stating that their involvement ensures that state governments consider the implementation capabilities of various states when making decisions regarding salary increments and policies mandated by the federal government.

Mr. Kabiru further emphasized the importance of timely payment of salaries on the 25th of each month, including teachers’ salaries and pensions.

He expressed optimism that the current administration will seek NLC’s expertise and input when required to address civil servant affairs.
