The Action Alliance has said it withdrew the petition challenging Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja because of” unity of our nation”, saying the Party would not want to be the reason Nigeria will be thrown into another horrific experience similar to June 12, 1993 Presidential elections believed to have been won by late Chief MKO Abiola, of the Southwest extraction
The Chairman of the Party Hon. (Dr.) Adekunle Rufai Omo-Aje, stated this in a statement made available to the media in Kaduna, Monday.
The Party added that as active democrats in the democratic experiment, they shall not be used by proponents of the Interim Government to achieve their concocted agenda of taking over the government through the back door.
“Thirdly, our party believes in the three key principles of a healthy democracy, which are: Equit, Fairness and Justice.
“The agitations around our country today is because parts or all of these key principles have been relegated.
“We believe it is not fair, to abort ascendancy of a Southerner to the most exalted seat and position, especially after a Northerner has successfully sat on same for eight years.
” We do not want to be seen as being used as a vehicle for further relegation of these all-important principles of democracy.
“We also considered those who participated and won elections in the elections.
” We considered Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of NNPP, Prince Adewole Adebayo of the SDP, who is our very good brother and friend.
” These two men among others had their parties winning positions in the elections, yet they never approached this Presidential Elections Tribunal in spite of their party loses.
“For this also, we considered many other reasons as canvassed by some of our leaders, we see no sense in furthering on with this protest petition.
“One of the reasons advanced by some of our leaders as well is the believe in the ability of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being a proponent of Restructuring, which has been one major reason why we have the barrage of agitation in our land today, to evolve a kind of policy that could engender resurgence of trust in our togetherness as a national entity.
” We need a personality that believes in policies that can repose trust in the aggrieved indigenous nationalities within Nigeria to reenact the loss of brotherliness among our diverse ethnicity.
With all the above stated reasons, we strongly believe that Nigeria is in better hand incompetence, with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the driver’s seat.
I want to mention and appreciate the intervention of my brother; Dr. Senator Iyiola Omisore, FNSE, CON, for his political wizardry and dogmatic faith in the unity of Nigeria.
Also, I want to thank the Leader of our legal team, Oba Maduabuchi SAN who had used and still using his calling to provide redemption and Justice for our party as its client. I salute you, sir, and say thank you.
“I cannot conclude this Press briefing without acknowledging the interventions of well-meaning Nigerians (home and in the diaspora), including some leaders of Afenifere, Ohaneze, the Arewa leadership, including the Middle-Belt Forum, captains of industries and community leaders through telephone calls and meetings urging us to see the loss of the party as our own contribution to the unity of Nigeria.” the Statement reads
