The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun training of 17 desk officers to register unemployed persons across the 17 local government areas of Plateau State.

The registration coordinated by its Planning, Research and Statistics(PR&S) Department followed the approval by the Director General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Fikpo for the exercise to begin from April 17 to May 5 nationwide.

Speaking at the training, the Acting State Coordinator of NDE in Plateau, Mrs Asabe Lassa, urged the officers to adhere to the guidelines of NDE in the registration process.

She said that the National Identification Number (NIN) of unemployed persons, state of origin, proof of residency and history of skills, were parts of the information to be collated by the desk officers.

She urged the desk officers to register the unemployed persons in their local governments irrespective of their state of origin saying “once they are resident in your local governments register them there”.

She implored them to keep the registration materials in good condition, to ensure the transfer of collated information to the database of NDE appropriately.

The NDE official urged them to work with the chairmen of the various local governments and other officials to give maximum publicity to the exercise to ensure its success.

In her remarks, the State Head of Research and Statistics, Mrs Anumi Mamza, said that the exercise was critical for proper national planning for empowerment programmes and creation of employment opportunities.

Responding on behalf of the desk officers, Mrs Stephanie Nyelong, thanked NDE for the opportunity to serve and assured them that they would discharge their duties diligently.(NAN)
