Less than 24hrs of protests in Sokoto, the home base of the Returnig Officer, against the results of the Gubernatorial election in Kaduna State, a group of women on Thursday also converged on the Kaduna State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ to outrightly condemn the results.
Consequently, they protesters are calling for the restoration of the “Stolen mandate” of their candidate, Isah Ashiru of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The candidate of the ruling party in the State, APC, Sen. Uba Sani was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The all women protesters who appeared in blacks to depict their agony and disappoinment accused the Independent National Electoral Commission manipulations allegedly orchestrated by the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Prof. Lawal Bilbis.
The protesters in their dozens carried various placards which read “Kaduna People Elected INEC Selected, No to Result Manipulations, No to Election Rigging, A Stolen Mandate Not Acceptable”.
The protesters were led by the trio of Former Minister of Environment, Mrs Laurentia Laruba Mallam, Former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State, Mrs Maria Dogo, Former National Women Leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Madinat Abdullahi.
On why the protest was not carried out beyond the NUJ Secretariat, they said as law abiding citizens they didn’t want hoodlums to highjack the process that could possibly lead to a break down of law and order”,
PDP in the State rejected the outcome of the Gubernatorial election and gave a strong indication of challenging the results in court.
