Zambian President Meets UN Secretary Gen. At LDC5 Conference In Doha

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia on Saturday met with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of LDC5 Conference in Doha.

Their conversation centred on the economy including peace and security.

According to the President, “We are grateful that the UN has continued to advocate for Zambia and other LDCs in highlighting our plight, which includes high cost of capital that has restricted growth. We also spoke about our initiatives towards human capital development through investment in quality healthcare and free education.

“We pledged to support the UN in our role as incoming chair of the SADC Organ on politics, peace and security and address the areas of conflict in the region.

“We reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the ideals of the UN as we believe in the multilateralism that comes with the organisation”.
