Lagos Government Shuts Down Chrisland School Over Death Of Student

Lagos State Government has on Sunday ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School, over the death of one of its students, Whitney Adeyemi.

Whitney, 12, died on Thursday in a Lagos stadium during inter-house sports competition.

A statement by Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, posted on Facebook announced the closure pending the outcome of a full investigation into the incident.

The commissioner commiserated with parents of the deceased and prayed for the repose of her soul.

“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends and acquaintance of Whytney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident”, the Commissioner stated.

Whitney’s father, Michael Adeniran, took to social media on Saturday night and demanded probe into circumstances leading to the death of his daughter.

Her mother, Blessing Adeniran, had accused the school of negligence as her family continued questioning the school.

The mother who was at the stadium the ground where her daughter died said the school made no provision for emergency response at the event, hence didn’t administer first aid.

She also said her daughter had no pre-existing heart condition despite the doctor’s allusion to a cardiac arrest.
