Labour Party (LP) Governorship Candidate in Plateau, Dr. Patrick Dakum on Sunday in Jos promised good governance and economic rebirth if elected at the forthcoming polls.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that good governance is premised on credentials of integrity accountability and transparency, which LP holds in high esteem.

“Part of good governance includes that we are prudent with what we are going to do with Plateau funds.

“We will ensure that the processes of governance are transparent and we have value for money in contracts and also have projects that are completed,” he said.

Dakum explained that he had established a team whose leadership quality would be outstanding, as they are seasoned and experienced individuals who have both public and private sector experiences.

“I offer myself as a leader that is experienced and exposed locally and globally in both the public and private sectors.

“I have also been exposed to issues at the community level as a result of practically being involved with non-governmental organisations and community-based organisations in fixing problems,’’ he stressed.

He promised Plateau people that they would get value for their funds, adding that there would be zero tolerance for corrupt practices, especially avarice by government officials.

“We are going to be a listening government to the people’s needs, and respond to them in the best way we can,’’ he assured.

Dakum promised that he would provide infrastructure based on needs assessment in the 17 local government areas of the state, saying his priority would be the construction of roads of economic significance.

“We cannot fix all the roads in Plateau, but will select the roads which are most economically viable,’’ he said.

He added that three major economic drivers in the state of agriculture, tourism and mining would be prioritised, leading to industrialisation and improved commercial activities.

He assured Plateau people that he would block loopholes to improve the state’s economy, especially as its debt status had incapacitated it from borrowing money for projects.

Dakum added that constituency projects would be approved according to availability of funds, while involving the EFCC in contract awards to prevent mismanagement of funds.
