Report from Mauritania says Liberia has been disqualified from the WAFU Zone A Under 17 championships.

According to the report confirmed by LFA President Mustaphai Raji, the Liberia Under 17 National team was disqualified hours before the match against Mauritania Monday for registering two overage players.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said Liberia registration of ineligible players violates article 27.4 of the tournament rules.

Two Liberian players were discovered to be overage after failing the mandatory age test done by a magnetic resonance imaging or MRI scan.

The decision by CAF means Sierra Leone who defeated Mauritania 3-0 have been declared qualify along with hosts Mauritania for the semifinal.

Liberian government is expected to give a statement on the situation with the Under 17 team’s disqualification Tuesday.
