The Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has called on the government to support Community Based Organisations (CBOs) implement projects towards eliminating malaria, COVID-19, Tuberculosis, HIV across the FCT.
They made the call on Friday, while engaging with the media on COVID-19 Response Mechanism and Sustainable System for Health (C19RM/RSSH) Project in Abuja.
Mr Salifu Daniel, ACOMIN, FCT Coordinator on Tuberculosis, said the C19RM/RSSH project seeks to address the gaps in the health system and ensure efficient and effective health outcomes.
” The C19RM component of the grant is aimed at supporting the efforts at preventing, treating and strengthening systems on COVID-19 containment as well as preparedness for future pandemics.
” It seeks to address gaps in the systems and infrastructures through strategic interventions so as to ensure efficient and effective health outcomes.
” It will also integrate the responses of health systems, communities and CSOs to COVID-19, such that all will contribute their respective quota in achieving the desired results across the states of implementation,” he said.
Daniel explained that the project would integrate the responses of health systems, communities and CSOs to increase coverage and provide information for the citizens on the diseases.
Also, Mrs Zainab Ibrahim, Monitoring and Evaluation officer, FCT Agency for the Control of AIDS ( FACA), commended the group for the intervention aimed at minimising the impact of COVID-19 on malaria, tuberculosis and HIV.
Ibrahim reiterated the commitment of the FCT administration towards collaborating with advocacy groups towards eliminating the diseases from communities in the six selected area councils of the territory.
She also emphasised the role of the media as a veritable tool of disseminating useful information that would educate the populace on interventions and exposed lapses that requires urgent attention.
On his part, Mr Samuel Simeon, Programme Officer, ACOMIN said the project was to support Malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS network to implement the C19RM/RSSH.
Samuel added that the 18 months project would be implemented in Bwari, Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abuja Municipal Area Council in the FCT. (NAN)
