A tripartite meeting of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Zamfara State Government over the Thirty Thousand Naira minimum wage has been held in Gusau, the State capital.
The consultative meeting acknowledged the commitment of the State government to promotion and the automated annual increments for workers
Labour was however not happy with the slow space in which the issue of the Thirty Thousand Naira minimum wage was being handled by the government.
The Labour therefore urged the government to see the best possible way to implement the #30,000 in the state even as it is constitutional.
While stressing the need for continued consultation with the State Government, the Labour on the hand, enjoined workers to remain calm as no effort would be spared in ensuring that the minimum wage is implemented by the government.
HERE UNDER ARE PARTS OF THE OUTCOME OF THE MEETING
There was a Meeting between the Zamfara State Government and the two labour centres (NLC/TUC) on #30,000.00 Minimum Wage for the State Civil Servants, on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022 around 11:30am.
The tripartite consultative meeting between the two labour centres (NLC/TUC) and representatives of the Zamfara State Government which lasted for hours took place at the office of the state Head of Service in Gusau, and it was purely for the purpose of the Thirty Thousand Naira Minimum Wage (#30,000.00) and other labour related issues during which the following resolutions were reached by the two labour centres:-
1) The two labour centres(TUC/NLC) appreciated and commended the effort of the state government by implementing the workers promotion across the state and hoped that, the gesture will be maintained
2) The two labour centres also welcomed the idea of seeing how the issue of annual increment will be automated, this indeed shows how positively the government is committed on that regard
3) The two labour centres (NLC/TUC) observed with dismay that the Government’s snail speed or non political will, to see the best possible way to implement the #30,000 in the state even as it is constitutional.
4) The two labour centres (NLC/TUC) were made to understand that either the government’s representative are not reporting to the government the true picture of the situation or the government is acting deliberately to deny workers right.
To this effect the leaders (chairpersons) of the two labour centres (NLC/TUC) made it categorically clear and known to the government’s representatives that the implementation of the #30,000 must be implemented in anyway possible.
5)…and to this effect, the two labour centres (NLC/TUC) are left with no option than to solicit and proceed on consultations with the State Executive Council (SEC) and critical stake holders to ensure the best way to achieve and ensure it’s implementation.
The duo bodies while appealing to the workers in the state to remain steadfast and patience urged them to also continue to support and cooporate with leadership
to ensure implemention of the minimum wage”.
