Nigeria: You Are On Your Own – Tangale People To Lamiya Simon

Date:

By Sunday Elijah, LAGOS

The Tangale socio-cultural group, in Gombe state, northeast Nigeria, under the umbrella of Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA) General Assembly, has urged Tangale sons and daughters across the world to dissociate from Lamiya Simon’s caretaker committee.

The General Assembly comprising of TCDA branch chairmen from states across Nigeria and overseas is the highest decision-making body of the socio-cultural body.

Mr. Simon’s caretaker committee was appointed by embattled Mai Tangle, Danladi Maishanu Maiyamba, who himself Tangale people have refused to recognised as their king, because he was not the elected king, but imposed on them by Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state.

Simon’s appointment by the Tangale Traditional Council came after the announcement of a caretaker committee by the General Assembly of the TCDA, at a meeting it held in its head office in Billiri.

Weeks ago, Mr. Simon’s leadership went to a Gombe state high court where it obtained legitimacy.

However, since their appointment in March by the Tangale Traditional Council, Simon’s leadership has not been able to hold any General Assembly meeting, because it lacks members support; the Tangale people have refused to align with them.

In a twist, the General Assembly held an emergency meeting on Sunday and came out with resolutions, calling on TCDA members to only recognise Musa Magaji led caretaker committee as the authentic leadership of TCDA.

The resolution reads in part;

  • That the Tangale traditional council is not empowered by TCDA constitution to take over the function of the General assembly of TCDA as a body corporate to appoint Caretaker.
  • That the General assembly has appointed an existing Caretaker long ago led by MWO Musa Magaji and that’s the only Caretaker of TCDA legally known to General assembly.

The General Assembly added that, “the purported Lamiya Simon Caretaker is only known to the Tangale traditional council as the appointor but not to General assembly of TCDA.”
