Outbreak Of Measles Reported In Liberia…Communities Resort To Use Of  Traditional Herbs

Measles Outbreak has been reported in towns and villages in Liberia .

According to State Radio ELB, the outbreak is reported in Todee Statutory District, Montserrado County amidst health authority intervention to remedy the situation from becoming a nationwide health crisis.

Conversations with citizens of affected towns and villages have uncovered that parents are now using country beans leaves along with traditional chalks as a means of treatment against the disease.

The report further indicated that bulk of the residents of those affected areas preferred the consumption of traditional Herb rather than seeking medical actions at nearby health facility but government is making frantic efforts in raising more awareness.

Some of the affected communities include: Morris Farm, BlockPad, Tar- Bay- Yah – mah, amongst many areas in Fanseh, Pleemu and Upper Meim Clan.

Two deaths have however been reported of children between the ages of two and eleven years.

Measles, according to medica experts,  is a red rash on the skin, typically occurring in childhood. It is  caused by a virus found in the nose and throat of an infected child or adult. When someone with measles coughs, sneezes or talks, infectious droplets spray into the air, where other people can breathe them in.
