Liberia: Lofa County Senatorial By- election In Progress As NEC Calls For Peaceful Conduct

Over one hundred thousand eligible voters are currently casting their votes in Tuesday’s Senatorial by-elections in Lofa County, as National Electoral Commission, NEC calls for non-violence approach towards the balloting process.

Six candidates are contesting the polls.

They are Cyrus Momo Tarnuekollie, Mariamu Fofana, Jallah Joseph Kpator, Galakpai Kortimai, Sumo Kupee and Samah George Beyan.

The Lofa County By-election followed the misappropriation of AFL soldiers funds verdict against former Defence Minister, Brownie Samukai who won the election in Lofa but was later stopped from being commissioned into office.

Prior to the commencent of the exercise, the NEC Chairperson, David-Etta Brown Lassanah had announced in a statement that electoral materials were dispatched to the various voting centers.

She appealed to everyone in the county to shun violence and ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully.
