The Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) partnered with Sunda International Company, producers of SoftCare Sanitary products, to commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day by supporting over 200 girls and women in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on May 29, 2025.

The initiative aligns with AMDF’s vision to support sustainable development initiatives and improve livelihood, focusing on promoting menstrual hygiene and reducing menstrual poverty among girls.

This year’s theme, “Together for a Period Friendly World,” underscores the need for collaboration to ensure girls can manage their menstruation with dignity, emphasizing the importance of working together to bring about change.

AMDF’s Executive Director, Mrs. Sekyen Dadik, highlighted the unfortunate reality that many girls in these communities have never used sanitary towels during menstruation, and do not have access to clean water, stressing the need for urgent action from governments, organizations, and individuals.

To address this, she advocated for: Long-term Policies and developing strategies to tackle menstrual poverty, such as establishing pad banks in schools and communities; Changing Harmful Norms by intensifying efforts to shift societal attitudes and address challenges women face during menstruation; Tackle Poor menstrual hygiene by providing water and toilet facilities in schools to support continuous learning for girls and effectiveness for female teachers.

During the event at LEA/GSS Juji and GSS Rido, girls received health talks and demonstrations on best practices for menstrual hygiene. Menstrual hygiene advocate, Nseingnom Victoria Domi, demonstrated for the girls how to properly use a sanitary pad and  emphasized the importance of good menstrual hygiene to prevent infections, reduce odor, and maintain comfort and well being during their periods.

The Principal of GSS Juji, Mrs. Rahab David Anzah, expressed gratitude to AMDF and Sunda International Company for their support, noting it was the first time the school had benefited from such an initiative, which meant a lot to both teachers and students. Also, the Principal of GSS Rido, Mr Musa Yahaya thanked the organizations for educating and supporting his students and teachers.
Presenting the Sanitary Pads to AMDF, the
Regional Sales Manager North west, Ariyo Monday Sule noted that the comfort and well being of young girls and women is at the heart of the vision and mission of Sunda International Company, as he commits to supporting girls to go through their monthly cycle with pride and dignity.
