Nigeria’s Cerebral Priest Highlights Imperative of Psycho-Spiritual Integration, By Justine John Dyikuk

Date:

Nigeria’s premier Catholic higher institution, the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) Port Harcourt, Nigeria, recently played host to Reverend Father George Ehusani at an august event which the priest challenged all to take psycho-spiritual integration seriously.

The priest who doubles as the the Executive Director of Lux Terra Foundation, Abuja and Founder, Psycho-Spiritual Institute, Nairobi, Kenya made the case recently when he featured as a  Guest Lecturer at a symposium organised by the Institute on “Psycho-Spiritual Integration.”

During his two-hour lecture entitled “Psycho-Spiritual Integration as the Pathway to Wholeness and Holism,” Fr. Ehusani maintained that psycho-spirituality is an integral part of life which drives every part of the human person.

He highlighted “the imperative of integrating psychotherapy into spiritual care on the one hand, and integrating spirituality into psychotherapeutic care on the other, towards achieving greater success in facilitating the healing as well as wholesome growth and maturity of the human person.”

During the event, the prolific writer and motivational speaker further explained that accessing counselling and spiritual direction are critical to a healthy life.

Members of the audience who were mostly teachers and students of various theological and pastoral disciplines were given an opportunity to seek clarification as the presentation was followed by a rich interactive session between the participants and the guest speaker.

At the end of the encounter, both lecturers and students  expressed a strong desire and request to replicate the Psycho-Spiritual Institute for the training of Psycho-Spiritual Therapists in Nigeria, possibly in CIWA.

Participants at the event were lecturers and students from both the Port Harcourt and the Obehie campuses of CIWA, led by the Acting Rector, Reverend Prof. Jude Asanbe, and Fr. Andrew Otu, Head of Department, Spiritual Theology.

Fr. Dyikuk is a Lecturer of Mass Communication, University of Jos, Editor – Caritas Newspaper and Convener, Media Team Network Initiative (MTNI), Nigeria. Email: justinejohndyikuk@gmail.com. Mobile: 08036232232.
