The government of Liberia in collaborations with the United Nations High Commission For Refugees UNHCR have officially turned over 70 housing units to Ivorian Refugees who are the targeted beneficiaries.
According to State Radio ELBC News, Roseline Okoro, UNHCR Country Representative praised AIRD ( African Initiatives Relief for Development) lauded the contractors for the quality of work done; and LRRRC for their support to the project.
She noted that the 70 housing units are part of the local integrated strategies currently being implemented by UNHCR.
On his part, Grand Gedeh County superintendent Hon. Kai Garlo Farley expressed gratitude to the UNHCR for their financial support to the project.
It can be recalled in February of 2021, during the nationwide tour of the President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr George Manneh Weah, broke ground for 250 housing units at the PTP Refugee Camp.
Those houses are intended to host the Ivorians who have chosen to locally integrate into the county.
The 70 units are the first batch while the second phase begins shortly.
In local integration strategy plan, 20% of the housing units will be occupied by the host community members.
The occasion on Wednesday June 8, 2022 at the PTP Refugee Camp was attended by Ivorian Ambassador, the UNHCR and an array of Liberian government officials and partners.
