Former Liberian Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai has questioned the integrity of the National Elections Commission Commissioners describing them as incompetent and unpatriotic individuals who should not be working at such integrity institution.

The former Vice President now leader of the opposition Unity Party, alleged that some of those steering the affairs of the National Elections Commission have political linkage.

He therefore expressed lack of explicit confidence in the NEC Board of Commissioners to conduct elections in the country.

AFRICA PRIME NEWS Correspondent recalls that on December 24, 2021 the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission indicted the NEC Chairperson Madam Davetta Browne Lansanah and court issued a writ for her arrest, but she was reportly on the run.

Madam Lansanah was indicted by the LACC for money laundering (inside trading and market manipulation), violation of the Code of Conduct, conflict of interest relative to the use of office for private interest and failure to disclose interest.

The NEC Chairperson came under a barrage of public scrutiny and investigation by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) after investigative media reports disclosed that she had rented 22 pieces of facial recognition thermometers for US$182,000.

The thermometers were used for the November 2020 by-elections in four counties and were rented from a company owned by her brothers.

Meanwhile, the Unity Party political leader however expressed optimism that the Party’s senatorial candidate Galakpai Kortima will emerge victorious in the pending Lofa County By-election.
