A military personnel was reportedly shot on Tuesday, with some residents injured following a resumed perennial clash in Nyuwar, our correspondent learnt.
The community located in the outskirts of Gombe and close to Adamawa, has been enmeshed in communal conflicts.
Recall that Nyuwar and Jessu, the two Lunguda communities were attacked in 2021 and in the previous years, where about 20 persons were said to have been killed with property worth millions of naira lost.
The recent attack led to the outlawing of indiscriminate gaming activities in the affected areas and the visit by the State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya and Commissioner of Police to the crises turn zone. In a bid to sustain peace the governors’ of both state also signed a peace treaty.
A source who pleaded anonymity, claimed the soldier was injured, while trying to avert attacks on Nyuwar by gunmen suspected to be neighbouring Waja community.
“The soldier has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment, the attack on the community. “However, the attack has continued unabated as the combine team of security operatives stationed in the community was outnumbered by the attackers,” the eyewitness said.
He revealed that some houses were also affected while women, children and the aged were forced to escape to neighbouring communities for refuge.
Meanwhile, dwellers are said to be scampering for safety as tension increases within the affected areas, as panicking residents hurriedly left in search of protection.
Attempts made by our correspondent to get the Police Commissioner Babaita, to comment on the renewed outbreak of violence proved abortive.
