Federation of Liberian Youth Lauds US Treasury Sanctions Under Magnitsky Act Against Corrupt Liberian Officials

The Federation of Liberian Youth-FLY has commended and recognised the stand of the U.S. Government through its Treasury Sanctions against corruption in Liberia.

FLY in a press statement issued on Friday encouraged all Liberians to join the fight against the scourge of corrput practices which will help put Liberia in good stead.

They added that Liberia had come a long way with too many abuses against public trust both in the public and private sectors.

The Liberian umbrella youth group further observed that corruption in the Liberian society continued to have more negative repercussions on citizens livelihoods that has prompted the action to elaborate on the matter.

It followed the United States of America through its embassy near Monrovia decision on Thursday December 09, 2021, to sanction warlord and Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson for corruption under the Global Magnitsky Act.

According to the United States, the sanctioning of Senator Johnson is a small potion of the US efforts in combating corruption in Liberia.

In furtherance, the Federation of Liberian Youths openly commend the United States Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, His Excellency Mr. Michael A. McCarthy for his unwavering support and determination against corrupt practices in the Liberian society.

At the same time, they assured readiness and willingness to the government and people of United States of America in pledging support to their relentless fight against corrpution which has tremendously affected Liberia’s development and social mobility.
