Cop26:  Why I was In Glasgow – Zamfara Gov … Woos World Leaders

The just concluded #Cop26 in Glasgow, Scotland was attended by many world leaders and environmental activists from around the globe
They spoke extntensively at the conference to press on world leaders and Industrialized Nations to do more on climate change.

 

The activists who took to streets to show their displeasure over the poor management of climate change by Industrialized Nations, called for more serious action, and commitment in order to save the world from future calamity.

 

 Nigerian officials and environmental activists at the conference, were not left out in that regard, but also pressed for more action in Africa.

 

Among them was the Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Bello  Matewale who told BBC Hausa Service after the conference that his State was being threatened by desert encroachment, land slide, among others, hence the need to draw world attention.

 

 “The main reason I was in Glasgow is to inform and tell the world about the effect of global warming in my State, and you see the overall effect on the environment, it’s also telling on our people, thereby contributing to poverty in the state, apart from the insecurity being faced  by the state, which by God’s grace we shall overcome, and you  know even Mr President was invited.

 

.*I have asked the world to come to our aid, and what i present is in relation to my State, you know it’s affecting my State.

 

“Some Leaders, have agreed to come to zamfara, with the promise to give seedlings to the state, and the Former Prime Minister of  Britain, Mr Tony Blair, has agreed to visit zamfara state”,
the governor added.

 

Zamfara is one the States in the NorthWest, hit by banditry and other related problems leading to the shutdown of telecommunication services as part of measures to contain the security challenges.
