Climate Change: Be Sensitive To Plights Of Citizens When Developing Laws, Policies – Forum Tells Govts.

Participants at a One-day meeting on Nature and Biodiversity in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, have urged government at all levels to be sensitive to the plights of the citizens when developing laws and policies on climate issues.

The call is contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting between the media and Civil Society Organizations Friday, to discuss on loss of plants and animals species to climate change and also preparatory to Conference Of Parties, COP 26 scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland.

The meeting which was organized by Extinction Rebellion with support from Bridge that Gap Initiative called on World leaders, ahead of Conference of Parties (COP26), to increase climate finance to address loss of the rich biodiversity of Africa.

The communique stressed the need for governments in Nigeria to invest in alternative source of Energy and also support recycling companies in their drive to convert waste to wealth.

Other resolutions adopted by the participants include, the need for relevant stakeholders to actively engage media in sensitizing citizens on climate change issues, while the media should sustain its role in sensitization on Climate issues.

Healthy collaboration between the CSOs and Media on environmental actions, the communique said, should continue.
