Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Adamawa House of Assembly, Mrs Kate Manuno, has called on major stakeholders to ensure proper implementation of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law as accented by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.

“I am calling on the major stakeholders of VAPP law to be on board to ensure proper implementation, like judiciary, executive, Civil Society Organizations and other NGOs,” Manuno, who is representing Demsa constituency, said in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Yola.

According to her, if the law is fully implemented on time, it would serve as deterrent to other perpetrators irrespective of who is involved.

“We need to implement it to the cure irrespective of who is involved in the crime, by so doing it will serve as deterrent to other perpetrators of evil in our society.

“For example, the issues of rape and sexual harassment the VAPP law is saying, if you raped a minor is death by hanging.

“Honestly, if actions are taken accordingly, all issues of rape and sexual harassments will drop to the barest minimum,” she said.

The lawmaker said that the law is not about women but about all and sundry.

“If by the time this law is fully implemented, I want to assure the people of Adamawa that everyone will enjoy his or her stay in the state,” she said.

Manuno further said that those women whom were left with nothing after the death of their husbands because of tradition would also smile if fully implemented.

“I commend Gov. Fintiri for accenting the VAPP Act in to law; that makes us one of the states in the nation that domesticated the VAPP bill,” she said.
