The need to increase women awareness on the use of ICT formed the discussion at a two day training workshop organised by Jigawa state chapter of women Journalists in conjunction with National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA held in Dutse, the State capital.
Declaring the workshop open with the theme, ‘’DIGITAL JOURNALISM’’ Director General of the agency, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi who was represented by Mallam Bashir Ibrahim said the decision to select Jigawa state was informed by the serenity and the avowed commitment of the agency to empowering citizens with modern skills and knowledge befitting the global digital trends.
‘’I feel happy to be here today, the purpose of this training to help them increase awareness of the potentialities that the use of ICT offers in transforming the profession especially among women journalists, thereby making them more efficient, more effective and competitive with other prominent global media gladiators’’.
The purpose of the training, he added, is to increase more awareness of journalists in the use if I.C T by transforming the profession especially among women journalists.
Malam Bashir also spoke of other roles of the agency which include regulating and promoting I.C.T practice in the country.
In a remark, the Zonal Vice President of NAWO Zone ‘A’ Hajiya Halima Musa applauded NITDA and NAWOJ Jigawa State Chapter, which foreseen the need to move from Analoque era to Digital era, as the world is becoming a global village.

In their separate remarks, former Zonal President of Zone A, Hajiya Zainab Rabo and former National Financial Secretary Sarah Agbo appreciated NITDA for bringing women journalists together across the Zone to equip them with more knowledge on digital journalism.
In an address of welcome, the Chairperson of Jigawa Nawoj Hajiya Hauwa Ladan said the training would be a transition of women journalists from analogue to digital , while those on the digital platforms will be giving more orientation on how to fully harness and tap from the vast knowdlege by reporting credible information to the world.
The chairperson described, Malam Kashifu as one of the few in Northern Nigeria whose vision is to develop human capital.
The workshop featured two sessions led by Sa;ada Ali and Firdaus Ali on digital Journalism and media journalism as well as presentation of working tools on digital journalism (Laptops) for participants by NITDA.
