The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Nigeria) Plateau state branch has condemned the incessant killings in Plateau state as it demands that the perpetrators of the recent attacks on Bassa, Riyom, Rukuba Road and the orphanage home that was set ablaze in Bassa local government area be brought to book.

FIDA made this demand via a statement by the chairperson, Mary Abah Izam, on Wednesday, stating that the killings and destruction of lives and properties on the Plateau is a clear indication of the flagrant disregard for human life and property.

The statement explained that the resultant effect of the incessant killings is the clear constitutional breach of fundamental rights, freedoms and protections, particularly the right to Life and property of vulnerable women and children in the affected communities, as evidenced by the inhumane act of arson carried out at an orphanage that housed about 156 orphans.

FIDA charged the Plateau state government to act promptly so as to curtail the unfortunate circumstances, as it demands justice and equity in handling the situation.

While commiserating with the affected families, communities, and the orphanage, FIDA encouraged Plateau state residents to embrace peace, and remain vigilant, as Justice must be served on all perpetrators and violators of peace.

FIDA also appreciated individuals that stepped forward to give support by providing temporary shelter, care and protection for the affected displaced persons, noting that it is disheartening that the already vulnerable orphans have been further traumatised by these condemnable attacks, killings and destructions ongoing unabated in the communities.
