Nigeria: Nasarawa State House of Assembly Passes Bill To Boost Revenue Generation, Infrastructure Maintenance

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, in north-central Nigeria, has passed a bill for a law to Establish Nasarawa State Infrastructure Maintenance and Haulage Fee and other related matters.

When signed into law, all heavy-duty trucks coming into the state will be required to pay fees, which government will use for the maintenance of Infrastructure, especially roads.

Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who announced the passage of the bill on Monday, emphasized that it would also give room for orderliness and traffic control among heavy duty trucks and other road users as it is the practice in developed nations.

“May I therefore direct the clerk to produce a clean copy of the bill for vetting and onward transmission to Gov. Abdullahi Sule for assent” he said.

The Speaker commended his colleagues for being up and doing in their legislative business and urged them to sustain the spirit.

“Honourable members, I thank you very sincerely for a job well done, let us continue in that spirit, you are justifying the purpose of our been here.

“Fulfilling our promises to the people of the state and working to improve in the economy status of the state. Please let’s keep doing the good work,” the speaker said.

A Bill for a law to Repeal and Re-enact Nasarawa State Area Courts Law and for other related matters, sponsored by Muhammed Ibrahim Alkali (APC, Lafia North), received its first reading, the House has fixed 30th August, 2021 for second reading on the bill.

In the sitting, the Joint House Committee on Finance and Appropriation/Public Account led by Aliyu Dogara, presented the report on a Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re- Enact the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Financial Management Law 2021 and other related matters, where Tuesday 10th August 2021, was slated for deliberations.

Similarly, House Standing Committee on Urban Development Board, led by Suleiman Yakubu Azara, presented a report on a Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Urban and Regional Planning Board and other purposes connected therewith. Tuesday 10th August 2021 was fixed for deliberation.
