Nigeria: Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, Dies @74

Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ibrahim Mantu, who represented Plateau Central Senatorial District is dead.

Sources say, Mantu died early hours of Tuesday at a private hospital in Abuja, at the age of 74 years.

A family source who spoke with Punch Newspapers, said, “Yes, it’s true. We just received the news of his demise last night at a hospital in Abuja”, the paper quoted the source saying.

The family source reportedly told the paper that the deceased had been ill occasionally and took ill again over the weekend when he came to Jos and was rushed to the hospital, where he gave up the ghost.

“He has been ill occasionally for some time and when he came to Jos last weekend, the illness started again and he was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he could not make it. We will miss him”, the source reportedly told Punch Newspapers.

Late Mantu, hails from Gindiri District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State and was Deputy Senate President from 2001 to 2007, under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
