As the nationwide e-registration of voter continues, the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza has urged those who attained 18 years and have no voter cards to register without delay.
“It is your civic responsibility to go out and be registered, to enable you to cast your votes in future, and if you don’t, and others go out and register and at the end of the day we get somebody that is not fit to be in the government… because you refused to be registered, you should also in conscience take the blame,” Bishop Mamza, said in an interview with Journalists shortly after Mass, as part of his Pastoral visit at Saint Francis Assisi Catholic Church Vunoklang Yola.
The cleric said, having a permanent voter card is the only step that guarantees the right of citizens to elect candidates of their choice during elections.
He explained that his visit to Saint Francis Assisi has uplifted the spiritual yearnings of the parishioners.
According to him, 15th August of every year is an important feast in the Catholic Church, as the day is being marked as the assumption of blessed virgin Mary into heaven, pointing out that the Church believes that blessed virgin Mary never experienced death like mortal.
Bishop Mamza called on the congregation to emulate the virtues of virgin Mary, because of the role she played for the salvation of mankind.
During the mass celebration, the Bishop offered the sacrament of confirmation to 127 candidates while 3 people received the sacrament of marriages.
