Wealth Creation: Waste Recycling Company Goes into Operation in Kaduna, Nigeria

A scrap processing and compose integrated recycling Company has gone into Operation in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria, to create employment and wealth.

It will also check the environment against flooding caused by littering of streets, gutters, streams, ponds and Rivers of waste.

The Chef Executive Officer of the company, Shehu Usman who stated this at company premises spoke of huge volume of wastes and other garbage that are also capable of causing flood, health challenges, pollution and environmental disasters.

He disclosed that the company has brought in recycling machines that could turn all the trashes and garbage polluting the environment and transform them into many uses.

Already, Shehu said, the company has engaged hundreds of scavengers and trashed dealers across the northern part of the country for the supply of scraps.

According to him, necessary equipment including, crushing and washing machines for recycling all plastic wastes have been put in place for the operation.

 

“Turning waste to cash is our focus, and our target is to wipe out all the wastes and garbage on the streets and other trash dump sites across the north, as to find ways of re-using them domestically and for other purposes.

Many youths and women are engaged into the processing of all the waste materials.

“Recycling takes 88% less energy than making plastic from raw materials while helping reducing fossil fuel consumption; Diverting discarded plastics from the refuse, or stream and turning them into new goods keeps these persistent materials out of landfills and the natural environment.

“We are fully in support of government and we engage in management and recycling of waste to wealth in Kaduna state.”

Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and processing raw materials all of which create substantial air and water pollution.

As recycling saves energy, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change.

Mr. Shehu stressed that recycling reduces the amount of waste produced by us. Conserves natural resources such as water, wood, and minerals. It prevents the overuse of resources and helps in preserving them. In addition, it saves energy.

The plastic recycling company is one of the biggest in Nigeria, and is going to be producing products that are of international standard which is in line with our quest to ensure that locally made nigeria goods compete favourably with foreign ones.”

Also speaking, a representative of the State Ministry of Environment and Director of Public and Laboratory Services, Mallam Usman Mohammed, described the setting of the company as a great development for Kaduna state and Nigeria at large.

He said, the company would surely help the state toward reducing the huge tonnes of daily waste that are contributing to environmental problems in the state.

“There are millions of plastic wastes in the river and other ponds, and they contribute on daily basis towards killing our marine animals and also polluting the environment,” he said.

Also contributing, Country Representative of African Climate Reporters, Mohammed Zakari, emphasized the need for State and Federal governments to support medium and small recycling companies, so as to strengthen their Capacity to thrive.

Mr. Mohammed appealed to Government to always support plastic recycling companies, in order to save the environment from plastic pollution and flood.
