Liberia COVID-19: Vaccination Centres Overcrowded As Authorities Encourage Citizens’ Participation

By: Raine Tarka Golegio -Monrovia  :

Some Liberian citizens in the nation’s capital Monrovia have created panic over crowdedness of vaccination center as the country’s cases of Coronavirus is on the increase in the Sub-region in the last few days.

With the uprising in the cases of the virus, the Liberian health authorities have embarked on efforts to encourage citizens to take their doses of the Covid-19 vaccine with a large gathering of citizens at vaccination centers in the country.

The government has further reenforced stringent health measures to combat the virus including mandatory wearing of facemask, reduction of passengers in public transportations and places, consistent washing of hands and avoiding large gatherings.

But contrary to government’s decision some citizens have frowned on the vaccination process as they claimed that the vaccination grounds have been overcrowded and could have the propensity to undermine the eradication of the virus as it breaks global health protocol.

They expressed fear over the gathering that instead of fighting the virus there could be an increase in the number of cases or discovery of another disease.

They further called on national government to rethink and decentralize the vaccination centers in more communities to reduce the mass gathering at the vaccination grounds.

According to the National Public Health Institute of Liberia latest report on Sunday June 20, 2021, there were 62 new confirmed cases making the total number of 3109, active confirmed cases 841, total deaths 99 with 4 new added and 2169 plus 53 new recoveries in the country estimated at 3.5 millions people.

. What seems to be rising panic in citizens, is the huge number of  unusual deaths of their family members and relatives at other health centers in the country in the last few days with government failure to address the concerns.
