Tangale Chieftaincy Crisis: Bring Perpetrators Of Heinous Act to Book – Legislators

The Gombe State House of Assembly has expressed dismay over the recent happening in Billiri where properties were destroyed during protests over the selection of Mai Tangale.

In a statement after its special sitting on Monday, the House unanimously condemned in strong terms the dastardly act which it said was retrogressive and tantamount to creating acrimony between different ethnic and religious group in the area.

The State Government has therefore been urged to bring to book those who perpetrated the heinous act and compensate those who lost their properties to the mayhem.

The House also sympathized with the victims of the carnage, condoled with the families of those who lost their lives and wished quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.

It also the prompt action taken by the State Governor Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa in bringing the situation under control and distributing palliatives to the internally displaced persons.

The House called on traditional, community and religious leaders to calm down their followers and preach the gospel of peaceful co-existence so as to avert reprisals.

The House also resolved to call for the continuation of the Curfew imposed in the Local Government until normalcy is returned to the area

It also called on for setting up a commission of enquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and make recommendations.

It reiterated its readiness to support the State Governor in taking the appropriate measures to resolve the crisis also urged him not to be deterred in carrying out his constitutional mandate.
