Government of Gombe State in northeast Nigeria has reviewed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Billiri Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya announced the review in Billiri while holding a meeting with representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Muslim Community in Billiri LGA.

By the new schedule people are allowed to move from 6am to 2pm, starting on Thursday the 25th February.

The meeting also had in attendance, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) zone 12, Etim E. Okon, State Commissioner of Police, State Director SSS, and Chairperson of Billiri LGA among other top Government officials.

A 24-hour curfew was imposed by the state government on the LGA following eruption of violence on Friday.

Earlier, on Wednesday 17th February, Tangale women went on peaceful protest over delay by Governor Inuwa Yahaya to announce the new paramount ruler of the Tangale people (Mai Tangle), alleging that the Governor was going to announce a candidate with a lower number of votes.

But on Friday the protest was hijacked by hoodlums, who went on to destroy business shops, and Muslims prayer houses. Four lives were reported loss in the violence.

On Monday 15th February, nine (9) kingmakers of the Tangale kingdom voted for a new chief. The result shows, Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba securing 5 votes, while Mr. Ahmed Magaji  and Mr. Danladi M. scoring 2 votes each.

The governor is yet to approve and announce the winner, but there are calls on the Governor to respect the wishes of the people by announcing the winner of the election.
