Entrepreneurship: Lawmaker Empowers Youths, Women To Reduce Poverty

No fewer than 700 women across the Ajingi, Albasu and Gaya Federal constituency of  House of Representatives have been empowered to generate additional income through improved poultry production.

The initiative through AMG Sustainable Families Support Programme aims at helping to preserve domestic breeds of chicken best suited for increasing production because of their resilience to local climatic conditions and environment.

The Member Representing the constituent Hon Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya who was represented by the past immediate Gaya local government chairman Alhaji Ahmad Tashi presided over the disbursement of N20,000 each to 700 women which were held at Gaya Islamic centre Tuesday.

Alhaji Ahmad Tashi noted that N14m distributed to beneficiaries after undergone Three days Intensive Training and Capacity Building Workshop on Poultry Production and Management in collaboration with Bioresources Development Centre (BIODEC)of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to him,  under the year in review this is the batch 7 of AMG women and youth empowerment programme and you must be aware of the 300 women empowered in various vocations including tailoring, hairdressing skills, goat rearing among others and empowerment tools just two weeks ago.

He added that Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya  had successfully executed uncountable various projects ranging from the drilling of boreholes, solar energy pumps, and classroom blocks, saying AMG purpose of constant empowerment trainings for the peoples of the constituency since was elected in 2015.

This is to create serial entrepreneurs that would create employment opportunities for Ajingi, Albasu and Gaya federal constituency people in future. These people were trained on different segments of empowerment programmes to the core.

Also speaking at the occasions, Albasu APC caretaker chairman , Alhaji Umar Ilayasu Hungu advised the beneficiaries to put to use on what they had learnt and remained good ambassadors of the constituency.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others, Maryam Muhammed from Gaya urged other beneficiaries, who cut across the 3 Local Government Areas of the constituency not to squander the grant but invest it in the trade they learnt and also become employers of labour.
