Members of the 9th National Assembly have applauded the staff and Management of National Eye Centre for attending to over forty thousand patients monthly, just as they promised to vigorously tackle land grabbers terrorizing the Eye Centre.
In a routine oversight function led by Dr. Paschal Obi, the committee said the National Eye centre is no doubt a centre for excellence given the magnitude of cases its handles daily. .
‘’The issue of budget provisions for the hospital are issues that can be resolved in the 2021 budget, at least now we have visited the hospital and there should be a difference’’ Obi added.
On Land tussle, the House of Representatives promise to take up the matter with the state Government for speedy execution of judgment. Other house members on the oversight function included Honorable S.B Adejare, Honorable Amobi Yunusa Akintola, Honorable Amos Gwamna Magaji and Honorable Bagos Musa Dachung
Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Doctor Mahmud Alhasan disclosed that ‘’ National Eye Centre Kaduna is a 300 hundred bedded hospital with 18 consultants, 37 residents doctors, 630 clinical and non professional workers and we attend to over forty thousand patients monthly‘’
‘’The major challenge of the Hospital are non approval of budgetary allocation for training and land grabbers intruding on our land. However, we have gotten the right judgment and honestly I commend the effort of the State Government in getting back our land’’ Alhassan added.
Also speaking Comrade Omotosho Williams who is the Chairman Joint Health Workers Union decried the poor level of training for staff and non promotion of staff.
‘’Our outstanding salaries of April and May 2018 are still pending and we want Government to address the issue as soon as possible. Poor funding which deprives our workers from mandatory Pre- retirement training and under-staffing’’, he concludes.
